Avec « Et si elle était retournée à la mer », Nadine Bariteau utilise la métaphore du saumon pour questionner l’idée du cycle complet de la vie et de la mort de l’être humain. Après avoir vécu un accident de voiture qui lui a fait perdre sa mère, l’artiste aborde les thèmes du deuil et de la perte dans le but d’ouvrir le dialogue sur ces sujets tant tabous dans notre société. L’aspect immersif de l’installation est essentiel à la réflexion et à la conversation et permettra au public de faire l’expérience de l’installation tant dans la clarté que dans l’obscurité. Cette pulsation lumineuse confère un ancrage poétique à l’installation, venant marquer le temps qui passe tout en évoquant le rythme de l’inhalation et de l’expiration, temporalité autant linéaire que cyclique.

For the exhibition « Has She Returned to the Sea », Nadine Bariteau uses the metaphor of the salmon to question the idea of the complete life and death cycle of human beings. Since her survival in a car accident in which she lost her mother, the artist addresses the themes of grief and loss to open dialogue on these taboo subjects in our society. The immersive aspect of her installation is essential to the reflection and the conversation, allowing the public to experience the installation both in the light and in the dark. The light pulse gives a poetic anchor to the installation, marking the passing of time while evoking the rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, a temporality more linear than cyclical.
