Formes primes avec Rolande Pelletier et Mathieu Matthew Conway / Atelier Circulaire Centre d’arts imprimés (CA)

L’Atelier Circulaire a le plaisir de vous présenter Formes primes, une exposition sur les récits visuels de gestes répétés par les artistes de deux générations, Rolande Pelletier et Mathieu Matthew Conway. Le vernissage aura lieu à la Galerie de l’Atelier Circulaire le jeudi 8 septembre à compter de 17h30 où vous pourrez rencontrer les deux artistes. L’exposition se poursuivra jusqu’au 1er octobre 2016.

Formes primes emprunte aux mathématiques l’expression définissant le résultat d’une transformation géométrique, transformation qui suite à un déplacement ou une action produira une nouvelle forme qu’on appelle une figure prime. Elle aussi un procédé de transformation de l’image, l’estampe transfère en symétrie ce que l’artiste a réalisé sur la matrice, pour nous donner à voir son image miroir. Cependant, c’est bien plus le travail de l’artiste qui en est le véritable facteur de transformation. Ainsi ne se limitant pas à la surface de l’image, les œuvres présentées sont une réflexion sur les procédés de création.

Rolande Pelletier est diplômée de l’ENSAD de Paris (1972) et de l’Institut des Arts appliqués de Montréal (1967). Elle a participé à de nombreuses expositions au Québec et en France et ses œuvres font partie de plusieurs collections privées et publiques au Canada et en France. Membre active de l’Atelier Circulaire depuis 2006, elle y a intensifié ses recherches sur le bois gravé et plusieurs autres techniques d’estampe.

Mathieu Matthew Conway a complété sa formation académique à l’Université Concordia dans le programme de majeure en peinture et dessin (2007). Artiste multidisciplinaire, il a également participé à différents projets de commissariat et collaboré à divers collectifs d’artistes. Il a aussi pris part à des expositions collectives dont récemment au Museo Nacional de la Estampa à Mexico.

Atelier Circulaire is pleased to present Prime Forms, an exhibition of visual narratives of repeated gestures by artists of two generations, Rolande Pelletier and Mathieu Matthew Conway. Join us on Thursday September 8th, 5:30 pm at the Atelier Circulaire Gallery for an artist talk and the opening of this exhibition, which will continue until October 1st, 2016.

Prime Forms borrows from a mathematical expression defining an image resulting from a geometrical transformation, transformation such as a movement or any change in the initial image that produces a prime figure. Also an image transformation process, printmaking is the symmetrical transfer of an image produced by the artist on a matrix that will allow us to see its mirror image. However, it is actually more the work of the artist that is the true manifestation of transformation. Not limited to the surface of the image, the works presented are a reflection on the creative process.

Rolande Pelletier graduated from the ENSAD of Paris (1972) and the Institute of Applied Art of Montreal (1967). She participated in many exhibitions in Quebec and in France and her works are part of many private and public collections in Canada and France. She is an active member of Atelier Circulaire since 2006 where she has intensified her research on woodcut and other printmaking techniques.

Mathieu Matthew Conway completed his academic training at Concordia University in the Major in painting and drawing (2007). A multidisciplinary artist, he also participated in curatorial projects. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions and has participated in various collective of artists.
