APPEL À RÉSIDENCE / CALL FOR RESIDENCY – Eastern Bloc

Pour cette résidence d’hiver, les artistes (ou collectifs d’artistes) sont priés de soumettre un projet qui touche à une ou plusieurs des disciplines suivantes : Net art, installation ou performance interactive, bio art, installation audio/vidéo, performance A/V, performance audio, intervention publique. Les candidats sont encouragés à proposer un projet selon le thème du « Marché noir », en accord avec l’orientation thématique de la cinquième édition du festival Sight & Sound.

Le média lab d’Eastern Bloc est un lieu pour expérimenter, apprendre, théoriser et créer; un espace pour faire avancer les pratiques hybrides, génératives, mises en réseau et systémiques, le tout guidé par le discours de l’artiste. Le laboratoire est un site de convergence pour les artistes (ceux qui sont établis comme ceux qui émergent), les professionnels, les étudiants, les techniciens, les théoriciens et commissaires, ainsi que tous ceux qui, en travaillant côte à côte, se soutiennent conceptuellement comme techniquement.

Le programme de résidence d’Eastern Bloc, avec trois résidences par an (automne, hiver et été), est une chance pour les artistes et le public d’être impliqués de façon critique au processus artistique, et ce, avec un regard particulier sur la culture de l’open source et du DIY, ou encore les discours politiques qui entourent la culture numérique, ainsi qu’une considération spéciale pour la pédagogie et la démocratisation technologique.

For the upcoming Spring residency, artists (or artist collectives) are asked to submit a project in one or more of the following disciplines: Net art, interactive installation/performance, bio art, audio/video installation, A/V performance, sound performance, public intervention. Applicants are encouraged to propose a project along the theme of “Black Market,” which will coincide with the thematic orientation of the fifth edition of Sight & Sound, taking place from the 8th to the 29th of May 2103.

Eastern Bloc’ media lab is a space for experimenting, learning, theorizing and creating – a place to further develop systems-based, networked, generative and hybrid practices through an artist-led discourse. The lab is a site of convergence for artists (both emerging and established), professionals, students, technicians, theorists and curators – encouraged to work side by side, supporting one another conceptually as well as technically.

Eastern Bloc’s residency program, with its three residencies per year (Fall, Winter, Spring), is a chance for artists and audiences to critically engage in the artistic process, with a focus on DIY and open source culture as well as and the political discourse surrounding contemporary digital culture, and a special consideration for pedagogy and technological democratization.

Depuis 2007, Eastern Bloc se situe à l’avant-garde en matière de diffusion et de promotion des nouveaux médias et des arts interdisciplinaires au Québec. Le centre soutient particulièrement l’exploitation créatrice dans les domaines des arts numériques, électroniques et audiovisuels, de la performance multimédia, et d’autres pratiques émergentes.
