La jeune peintre germano-bulgare Oda Jaune présente un ensemble inédit d’aquarelles réunies autour du thème du masque. Ces nouvelles œuvres livrent des scènes ambigües dans lesquelles des personnages sont confrontés à la métamorphose, à des jeux de transformation et de dissimulation. Du clown à la religieuse, de la lutteuse à la mère, dans la réminiscence d’images publicitaires ou cinématographiques, l’artiste s’interroge sur les masques sociaux et la construction de la personnalité. Entremêlant visions tendres, naïves et violentes, Oda Jaune poursuit son exploration sans concession d’un inconscient affranchi des conventions.

Née en 1979 à Sofia en Bulgarie, Oda Jaune a fait ses études à l’Académie des Beaux Arts de Düsseldorf, où elle a été l’étudiante du peintre Jörg Immendorff. Elle est installé depuis 2008 à Paris, où elle a trouvé un écho à son univers tourmenté et plein de poésie. Il s’agit de la troisième exposition de l’artiste à la Galerie Templon depuis 2009. Parmi ses expositions récentes, on peut citer The bearable lightness of being (2008) pour la 11ème Mostra Internazionale di Architettura de Venise, Tous cannibales à la Maison Rouge à Paris (et à la Me Collectors Room à Berlin), Confrontation avec Félicien Rops au Musée Rops de Namur (2011), Hybrides à la Fondation Francès à Senlis (2012) et Who’s afraid of picture(s)? à l’Ecole d’Art et de Design de Grenoble (2014). Un ouvrage consacré à la série Masks sera disponible aux éditions Distanz en juin 2015. A l’automne 2015 les éditions Roads publieront une monographie de l’artiste signée par Catherine Millet.

German-Bulgarian painter Oda Jaune presents a new series of watercolours that examine the idea of the mask. These new works present ambiguous scenes depicting characters confronting metamorphosis and the interplay of transformation and concealment. From clown to nun, wrestler to mother, in images reminiscent of the cinema or advertising, Jaune questions social masks and the construction of personality. Mingling visions of tenderness, naïveté and violence, Jaune continues her frank exploration of a subconscious freed from convention.

Born in 1979 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Oda Jaune studied at the Dusseldorf academy of fine arts under the painter Jörg Immendorff. She moved to Paris in 2008, a city she finds reflects the tormented yet poetical world she portrays. This will be her third exhibition at Galerie Templon since 2009. Notable recent exhibitions of her works include The Bearable Lightness of Being (2008) for the 11th Mostra Internazionale di Architettura in Venice, Tous cannibales at the Maison Rouge in Paris (and the Me Collectors Room in Berlin), Confrontation avec Félicien Rops at the Musée Rops in Namur (2011), and Hybrides at the Fondation Francès in Senlis (2012). A book on the Masks series will be published by Distanz in the summer of 2015. Autumn of the same year will see the publication by Roads of a monograph on the artist with a text by Catherine Millet.
